The Light Entity, the Loved, and the New Year.

Greetings Folklorists,

After many late night reflections, post-writing discussion, and creative sessions , we have realized that we are all currently living in the age of the story. The average viewer is yearly inundated with thousands of video games, art imagery, films, novels, and comics.  Most of these works are striving toward the same goal: through story sending a message that reaches the mind and heart of audience, and finds some sustainable existence that outlives the creator. In the New Year, we will continue our mission to stand out from the pact and work diligently to make sure your reading experience is immersive and exciting.

Here is a glimpse into the current work (spoiler free). These panels include the light entity (a component of the story that plays a very important role in Malcolm's journey) and his loving wife, Iris.  Trust us. It will be worth the wait.

Thank you.

A Glimpse into the World of Malcolm
over 8 years ago – Sun, Oct 18, 2015 at 11:54:24 PM

We're still diligently working on building the beautiful and harrowing world of Malcolm, where he journeys from his "home" to Avalon.  Each page is carefully conceived and  illustrated to maximize the experience of the reader, while giving the comic a cinematic aesthetic and appeal.  This creative process is taking a little more time than expected. Here's a breakdown:

      5-6 panels per page

x  5 storyboard ideas behind each panel

 x  46 pages

      1380 images

The first issue is completed and going through a polishing process and the second issue is under way. We have also added some new members to the team to speed up the process, and made it our goal to quicken the pace while maintaining the intended quality.

Above is a glimpse at the work - Malcolm's world, his safe haven before it's shattered, the calm before the storm.

Thanks for your patience and pressure.  Stay tuned.

The Pale Raven Team - On Genshii, Jellyfish, and Malcolm's Journey Home
over 8 years ago – Mon, Aug 10, 2015 at 06:47:55 AM

Hello Backers,

Thanks a ton for your patience and support.  Similar to Malcolm's journey, ours is filled with challenges, obstacles, and great epiphanies.   And like Malcolm, The Pale Raven team is working tirelessly to make it home, and produce a comic of the highest quality and experience.  Creating this world for you takes developing, conventionalizing, and perfecting our characters and worlds.  It requires us to make sure the visual narrative is powerful and each panel is packed with maximum emotional resonance. We're all working hard to make sure that happens. With that said, here is some of the current work.

Characters

Genshii

This is one of the many concepts flushed out by the brilliant Levente Peterffy.  Without giving too much away, Genshii is a character that later will play a key role in Malcolm's journey.

Storyboards

Here are some rough storyboards from the first issue.  Lev captures not only the emotion of  Malcolm's journey and with The Brothers Harrow composes some great frames to set the visual foundation.

Colored Pages

Avalon - Colored Pages

We don't want to spoil the experience, but these frames (jellyfish included) are pretty important thematically to the story and serve as the emotional anchor to a key character.

Coming Home

Again, thanks for your patience, and we can't wait for you all to enjoy the fruits of our  hard work.  We want to remind you all that the you are home, the end point, the last stop on our arduous, and yet rewarding journey.  Thank for waiting for us to arrive. Not only are we grateful, but we're on our way.  See you soon.

Quick Update.
almost 9 years ago – Mon, May 25, 2015 at 04:22:36 PM

Greetings Folklorists,

Just a quick update from the creators here at Pale Raven.

We are hard at work creating this new kind of graphic novel. It is certainly a labor of love and passion, yet it is certainly taking a bit longer than we are originally anticipated. We are still dedicated more than ever to bringing you a one of a kind experience, but we will not shirk our pledge of quality.

That said, we are looking at a release date at the end of year. Not ideal, we know, but we want to bring you something special, and we need the time to do that right. Good news, we will be including extra pages and content so your book with be that much more enriched.

Thank you for your patience and love.

We leave you with a concept art piece from Po Sing Chu of one of our more enigmatic characters.

A Dream of Creation
about 9 years ago – Sun, Apr 12, 2015 at 10:18:41 AM

Greetings Folklorists,

Time for another update!

The journey is long and hard but in the end will be well worth the trials and tribulations.

The process of creating something new is never an easy one and the path is wrought with obstacles and obstructions. There are unknowns around every corner and every new page brings a new problem to solve.

So while we are hard at work bringing you something incredible to view and experience we also want to make express honesty in the difficulty in the task we've laid before us.

Nothing will stop us from reaching our goal and the pages and artworks being produced are simply stellar! (we hope :) )

We wholeheartedly believe this will be a one-of-a-kind experience. And we believe you will agree.

Again, we are looking at an End of First Quarter tentative release. We've also added several artists to the Pale Raven flock. They are lending their talents to the project in various ways.

Po Sing Chu - Concept Artist

Nadia Mogilev - Concept Artist

Johan Wahlback - Concept Artist

Chenthoora Nambiarooran - Concept Artist

They are all phenomenal artists and we can't wait to show you the incredible art they've been producing.

Stay tuned, stay vigilant. Your patience and love is endlessly appreciated.

For now, we leave you with an image from the book.

This is a singular panel. We believe it shows how much work we are putting into each and every frame.

Dream Well,

- Pale Raven
