Of Quest, Storms. and Support
about 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 24, 2017 at 11:11:01 PM

A couple of years ago we set out on a quest to create a beautiful and dark cinematic comic experience. Despite the insurmountable storms we face, it's by the grace of some unknown force that we have made it this far...and you have supported us the whole time.  Thank you.

"His bloodshot eyes are held in shadowed sockets, fierce and focused to an intensity far beyond what his age would tell."
"His bloodshot eyes are held in shadowed sockets, fierce and focused to an intensity far beyond what his age would tell."

This week we are launching a web comic for TALYN, which all Kickstarter backers will receive for free (stay tuned for the weblinks)

TALYN is a comic experience that feels like the classic anime masterpieces such as AKIRA, Vampire D Bloodlust and Princess Mononoke.

The Premise - In a Gothic metropolis filled with Vampires, Lycans and other creatures of night, a homeless street-fighter searches for her missing sister, who's disappearance is part of an ancient plot to control her world.

The story will span centuries and will show new perspectives on dark mythologies that have permeated storytelling since its beginnings.

Hope you are all excited and there for the experience!

Feel to ask questions in the comments!

The Road is Ever Long...
over 7 years ago – Wed, Jan 18, 2017 at 04:05:51 PM

Greetings Folklorists,

It has been several months from our last update and know many of you are getting restless in terms of when the book will arrive and rightly so. Our last update detailed the inclusion of another title, Talyn - Seed of Darkness and plans are to ship that comic aswell.

Many are confused or frustrated as to why the book hasn't launched and why it is taking so long. We will try to explain.

When first taking on this task of creating one of the best looking graphic novels ever, we most certainly underestimated the amount of work needed to accomplish this.

Panel Preview

Every single panel has the attention, polish and time spent as if it were a one of a kind illustration. And that time adds up. We have over 400 frames in just Avalon alone.

That's 400 illustrations!

Not to mention the time it takes to design frames, concept characters/environments and storyboards. So while this isn't an excuse to take our time, its just a tremendous amount of work to do. But when it is completed, the book will be something entirely new in the genre in terms of quality and immersion.

Rest assured, we realize its a long road, but we are almost at the end. Thank you for being with us as we reach our destination together.

Cheers,

Pale Raven

More details will be unveiled this week around The Dark Tales of the Brothers Harrow - Volume 1 and TALYN - Seed of Darkness. Thank you all for your endless support. You will all soon see the fruits of your dedication. And it will be something special. - The Brothers Harrow will join  as part of The Dark Tales of the Brothers Harrow - Volume 1!

Walking the Line
about 8 years ago – Sat, Apr 09, 2016 at 09:42:42 PM

Hello Backers,

We have been buried in creating content, but every so often we'll come up for air to watch something inspirational. Man on the Wire, a documentary film about tight rope walker Phillippe Petit, is an inspiration because of the parallels between creative risk taking and producing content.

While practicing both, there is balance between preparation, execution, and more importantly, having an unmovable belief.  But even with all the prepping and belief of Phillip Petit - the tight rope walker - a slight wind, the arrival of the police, or any other unforeseen occurrence could lead to death by falling. Unforeseen occurrences have slowed our process and could have totally ended us, but we intend to keep pushing. To keep walking the line.

Projected completion of the book is August 24th .  We are walking the line, and will keep doing so.

In the mean time, here's a new preview teaser of some of the panels in Avalon: The World Within.

Thank you for your patience, we are endlessly grateful.

Sincerely,

The Brothers Harrow

Process, Progress, and The Glory of Mistakes
about 8 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2016 at 03:03:01 PM

Illustrious Folklorists,

"...if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something." - Neil Gaiman from Make Good Art

We are currently living by this segment of a commencement address delivered by our personal hero and creative inspiration, Neil Gaiman. In this speech, he goes on to eloquently draw a connection between making art and making mistakes.  He tries to help the listener to understand that each step and misstep (the mistake making and art making) are synonymous and necessary in order to grow and do any thing amazing. "Make amazing mistakes," he goes on to say.

With that being said, even after all the research, preparation, and consulting of professionals, we underestimated our timeline, therefore delaying our delivery date. We didn't predict that the detail required to create the immersive quality of work we desire requires more team members. The work of three artists was previously being done by one artist on a part-time schedule. While some of our team members have dealt with life's unforeseen occurrences (sickness, changing jobs, etc.).

Therefore, we have picked up an additional team member to help with storyboards.   This will speed up the process a bit and get the delivery of the book to you guys in a more timely manner.

Thanks a ton guys for your support, patience, and enduring of our amazing mistakes.  The book will be here soon.
